THERE IS A BLESSING IN YOU

The Golden girl of Nigeria
flying the Nigerian flag
Like her name, she has proven to the rest of the world that something good – a blessing can come out of Nigeria. In an unprecedented manner on the BIG stage she has shown the world the true meaning of Nigeria. She has written not only her name, but that of the entire nation in ‘GOLD’ and that she did by finishing ahead of English duo of Jodie Williams and Bianca Williams with a time of 22.25 seconds to win the 200m sprint at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland, after previously dusting her rivals, Jamaica's veteran athlete Veronica Campbell-Brown and Kerron Stewart who won the silver and bronze respectively in the 100m. What a feat or should I write what a #BLESSING?

"I am happy I won, it wasn't favourable weather and running two rounds in one day is new for me… I wanted something faster. I didn't get the time but I got the win and two golds. It's amazing." – Blessing Okagbare
As she defeated Campbell to win 100m gold
While I am happy and join other Nigerians to celebrate this lady of GOLD, I want to quickly point your attention, yes YOUR attention, YOU reading this piece and indeed the attention of every Nigerian (or anyone who may be reading this) to this fact, sorry, this truth that there is a ‘BLESSING’ in you.

What do I mean you may wonder!

Blessing Okagbare is not achieving the feat she is doing today by some unusual means; rather she is doing so by simply tapping into the ‘BLESSING’ that the Creator has endowed her with – that which you and I call ‘gift’, ‘talent’, ‘potential’, ‘latent ability’, or whatever you choose to call it by…

The truth is that this ‘blessing’ is already resident on your inside. Your duty is to dig deep down on unleash the power of that ‘blessing’ on the world, so that one day, some day and somewhere on this planet, the world will stand still to celebrate you.

Do I hear that groan that you can’t run like Okagbare? You don’t have to run like her. Her own blessing is finding expression through her legs, yours can be through the use of your hands, your mind or some other parts of your body. Just DIG DEEP.

The Scripture posits that the whole earth waits (anticipates, looks forward to, yearns for, expects) for the manifestation (showing forth, full expression, unleashing) of the sons of God. (Romans 8:19)

200m race
What a tragedy it would be if you deny the world of the realization of their expectation through your non-manifestation.

GO AND BE A BLESSING THROUGH THE BLESSING WITH WHICH YOU HAVE BEEN BLESSED.

OVER-SIZED SHOES

Not long ago, a very good friend of mine, someone I hold so dear and have great respect for sent me this quote, “Making friends is like wearing sandals. If they do not fit then you remove them.” – Ashanti

This got me thinking and after a considerable time ruminating over this, some sort of insight dawned on me.
I remembered my growing up days and realized that I wore ‘over-sized shoes’ many times.

When I was much younger (I don’t know if you experienced this) and my mum bought us any shoes that were ‘over-sized,’ it was customary for us to ‘pack’ papers in them so they could fit and not fall off when we wore them.

Now, it is pertinent we remind ourselves again that this piece is not about ‘Shoes,’ but ‘Friendship/relationship.’

I am currently working on a biography for a retired Reverend, which will be published soon. During one of the interview sessions I had with the man and his wife of over fifty years, she (the wife obviously) told me something that will remain forever indelible on the canvas of my heart as a lesson. She said, “Friendship/Relationship/Marriage is like wearing a cloth, when it gets dirty you don’t throw it away, rather, you wash it; iron it; and generally ensure that it is clean and looks presentable so it can be worn again.”

You see, there is no place on earth where you will have a perfect human/human relationship(s). But where you see or find one who shows commitment; sincerity; respect; regard and true love for you and your person, such a friend should not be discarded, rather be cherished.

What you should do if you have issues that bother on uncertainties and areas you are not clear about as far the friendship/relationship is concerned is to enliven and strengthen the cord of communication so that you both can together find light and shed it on the dark areas that may be bringing doubts.

What the Reverend’s wife said confirmed to me again that with proper communication and commitment on the part of each party in the union, there is no difference that cannot be resolved. Like I always say, there is no almighty formula for solving or resolving love equations, it only takes sincerity, openness, trust and commitment.

Finally, my dear reader, I encourage you to think again before you jettison that friendship/relationship that is making you ‘angry,’ especially if the person you are angered against has shown sincerity and true commitment to the friendship/relationship.

WRITE OR FLY

The teacher of teachers...
‘Good Friday’ is instituted
as a holiday in many countries around the world.

But everything that happened during this period,
thousands of years ago
master plan and it had been written down before
it eventually happened.
was God’s idea and

When was the last time you had a new idea? What
did you do with it? Did you let it escape? At times,
ideas flow to us but if they are not written down they fly.
It is the pen and paper that we use to capture them,
put them down and turn them into a reality in our lives.

The major part to planning is to write it down. We must
cultivate the habit of writing. It is too crucial and important.
The shortest pencil is better than the longest memory.
There are always so many options but when you sit down
to plan you are able to define accurately where you want to go.

Planning increases your personal efficiency. It helps you to
identify your strengths and weakness.

It helps you recognize your strength because when
you sit down to analyze how far you have come;
suddenly you realize that there are some things
that have worked.

In planning, I have realized that one needs to
deal with one’s weakness.  I am an idealist.
I always plan on ideal circumstances and the
ideal circumstances are usually not realistic.

Planning helps to build your self-confidence.
When you begin to see some positive results,
it envelops your self-image and self-esteem.
This gives you the confidence to confront bigger
issues and move forward.

Please note that when you make your plans,
make sure they are flexible.

Your dreams are becoming realities and your
miracles are coming to pass.
